Objectified

without comments

Objectified is a feature-length independent documentary about industrial design, by director Gary Hustwit, who also directed Helvetica. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the people who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability. It’s about our relationship to mass-produced objects and, by extension, the people who design them.

Colander Table by David Rohr

without comments

Designed out of a solid block of aluminum (weighing in at 900 lbs), the Colander table is an experimental project by designer Daniel Rohr. The idea behind the design is to create an invisible space within a space. Due to the bowl-form, the glass-top and the 909 holes drilled out of the polished aluminum block, objects placed upon the tabletop seem to float weightlessly in air. Taking over 4 weeks to produce a single unit, the table will be sold in an edition of only ten.

Clutch Chair

without comments

Designed by Scott Jarvie, and made from 10,000 drinking straws, the Clutch Chair is an exploratory research piece that passes comment on our disposable culture. The development process of this piece also informed that of the Clutch Light, both of which were developed from an observation of the structural characteristics of trees.

This piece was selected by Zaha Hadid as her Curators Choice at Noise Festival 2008

Gaudi Stool

with one comment

The Gaudi Stool gets its name from the architectural influences of the Gothic Designer Antoní Gaudi. Like his works, this stool derives its strength from the benefits of beam-grid substructures that support its thin carbon fiber shell. Rapid-prototyping techniques employed in its manufacture ensures that the cost of production stays minimum, thus making it a viable project.
